Jessica’s Story:
Jessica was an accomplished homeopathic doctor in her
early fifties. She had a thriving practice and was
loved by her clients. Her love life had been sporadic
and fiery ever since her second divorce a few years
earlier. She also had a somewhat intrusive
relationship with her extended family. Most of her
close friends were periodically at odds with their
emotional and psychological states, as she often was.
She yearned for freedom, but despite years on a
path, she seemed to be at an impasse. How could she
surmount the challenges she was facing? Dissolving
fifty-two years of conditioned living seemed
impossible to her. Then one day, after a very long
talk with her spiritual teacher about moving from convenient
to awakened decentering of the lesser-self, she
surveyed her current life situations, and in a breath,
admitted to herself, “I am free.” Nothing
changed visibly, yet this top-down
perspective was accompanied by a profound and
overwhelming sense of relief and a curious sense of
awakened tension. From that point forward, Jessica
went about creating the conditions for awakened living
as a free person.
evolutionary pointer: Your statement of
freedom releases the desire to consciously evolve.
P: I am sure things were still
challenging for Jessica. But, at least she was
uncovering concealed conditioning as a free
person and not a seeker who still wanted to be free.
MQ: Exactly! The awakened decentering of concealed conditioning is born of infinite purpose and
it begins the instant you admit, at least to yourself,
that you are free,
regardless of what’s happening in your life. Spiritual
finders walk the path that transcends and includes
the culturally- created-self, while spiritual seekers are still looking for the beginning of that path.
Seekers of
the way make changes for the sake of their personal
peace of mind. Finders of the way make those same
changes for the sake of humanity.
P: This is a subtle but profound distinction.
MQ: Yes, it is. The declaration of freedom ends your
tenure as a spiritual seeker and places you firmly on
a path of conscious development.
evolutionary pointer: “I
am free” is the last declaration you will make as
a seeker.
P: Doesn’t this contradict what you said earlier
about the illusion of free will? I mean - is it not an
expression of my free will to make my declaration of
freedom?
