Mind Over Body or Body Over Mind?

Is your body in charge of your mind? Or is your mind in control of your body? We rightly assume that if we wish our body to be still that it will follow our request. This is because our thoughts and feelings have no influence over our body beyond that which we permit.

Disregarding the thoughts of movement, stops the body. Is it possible that the reverse is also true? Does physical stillness lead to stillness of the mind?

 
Those of us who are drawn to meditation will know about the challenge of being still. There is, however, a radically simple practice called stillness meditation. In this practice, you do not have to worry about the mind and the emotions. They will follow the example of your physical calm. Physical stillness is all that is needed, so the state of meditation, which is your natural state, may become apparent. With dedication to a regular practice of stillness meditation, you will notice that the constant mental busyness you are witnessing is not at all who you are. 
 

Stillness meditation reveals just how much our mind controls our body, how the ego keeps us in flight from what is, from the present moment, from now, from the consequences of our actions in the past,  and from our thoughts of the future. The ego-mind keeps us running away from our true Self until we can run no more – death.

Therefore, for those of us who are interested in an authentic path of awakening, it is important to know that we are in charge of ourselves as opposed to the ego-mind being in charge.
