Transforming
Turmoil into Truth

P: Awakening from the ashes of a wholly conditioned life is an
arduous task.
MQ: It can be. Spiritual evolution is challenging, because
ultimately we are fighting inertia. This is especially
true if you
are only now beginning to find out that the separate
sense-of-self and the ego-mind have been your lifelong
co-producers.
P: Why am I in
constant flight from change?
MQ:
Not you -
only the ego-mind. Is not the surface of the ocean
changeless in its relentless alterations? A great Oak
grows tall, buds and flowers, blossoms, loses its
leaves, falls over, sunders and decays. Are all of
these movements not graceful, and without labels -
only one? Is
not transformation an endless flourish of creativeness
- the lush inventiveness of emptiness?
P:
Yet, conditioning continuously calls me to label
endless change.
MQ: As endless or beginningless? When you express your thoughts as
actions, are you not creating that which ultimately has
never been? Are you not doing this daily, hourly, or
by the minute? Even Buddha said, “It
is with our thoughts that we create the world.” So,
are these labels of ‘less’ or ‘more’ or
‘better’ or ‘worse’ ever the same?
P: Therefore, by acknowledging my interest in change, I can accept
that a discomfort zone is a sign that I am ready to
evolve?
MQ: Yes, indeed. And it is very important that we do not condemn
the structures that have afforded our evolution thus
far. The unformed future rests on the formations of
the past, as ‘righteous’ or ‘unjust’ as they
may appear to the tainted eye of the conditioned mind.
evolutionary pointer: Trust in transformation always transmutes turmoil into Truth.
MQ: Have you noticed that anguish is not really caused by things
that happen to
you; rather it appears when you knowingly or
unknowingly defy the rightness of transformation? You
become worried and stressed when you lose a job;
you’re devastated when a lover leaves you; you’re
upset even when little things don’t go your way. You
often have a difficult time accepting change in your
life—even ‘good’ change—and feel the need to
manage, re-position, or force everything in an effort
to make your world safe and predictable.
P: Do ‘I’ really feel that need or is that just the ego-mind
panicking in the face of the unknowable?
MQ: You only witness change. It’s the unhealthy-ego that abhors
it, or in some cases champions change to boost your
self-image of detesting the ‘status quo’.
evolutionary pointer: But,
if you look closely, you will see that the suffering
you experience, as well as the pain and suffering
you cause others, is the result of your
unwillingness to embrace resistance.
MQ: Thus, resistance is an invitation to grow to the next level
that is being made available to you. Those who have
awakened actively pursue development and evolution,
thereby seeming to be fearless.
P: But, it’s not that they are without the voice of healthy
apprehension, right?
MQ: That’s right. Unreasonable fear appears only when you resist
the process of life. When you let go of the
unhealthy-ego, all emotional and psychological
struggling is revealed to be the manifestation of
mediocrity masquerading as contentment and false
bravado. Often it takes more energy to pretend that
you are happy than it does to let go of unnecessary
suffering.
evolutionary pointer: The
awakened person sees chaos as the genius of
serenity.
P: So part of awakening is to discover that life is constantly in a
state of flux.
MQ: And that the expression
of harmony recreates itself
in spite of prevailing conditions. Out of this knowing
emerges the ability to manifest the wildest of dreams
without any expectations of ‘success’ or
‘failure,’ ‘gain’ or ‘loss’.
P: Do awakened people have preferences?
MQ: Yes. They, too, want things to go well, but a particular
outcome cannot fundamentally affect their awakening.
P: Life to an awakened person is a constancy of change, development and growth?
MQ: Awakening is a constancy
of conscious evolution at the forefront of your
awareness. And the forms those changes take are
ultimately your responsibility. The future of humanity
is dependent upon you.
P: When do I rest?
MQ: Only the ego needs vacations.
There is no struggle when out of perfection emerges
more perfection. That is the paradox of the spiritual
practice of fighting inertia.
P: Do all excuses for limitations emanate from the voices of the
unhealthy-ego?
MQ: Yes.
