MQ: The
Fourth Insight reveals to us the glorious
possibilities of awakened relationships, awakened
love, awakened compassion, nonviolent communications,
natural hierarchies, and the fundamental absence of
personal conflict. This enables the basis for
collective individualism, which is the emergence of
the One Self that is shared by many.
evolutionary pointer: Collective individualism is the wholly conscious experience of the
‘Higher
We’.
MQ: In awakened relationships your partners are not
seen as separate, but as unique expressions of the
same consciousness that is you. You and your
colleagues are as one. Because of this, when two or
more whole individuals come together in awakened
relationships, a state of collective
consciousness becomes apparent. This state
arises naturally or it can also be driven by the
intention of the participants. The ability to
participate in such collective individualism further
unifies the participants and guides them as they
co-create the future.
P: But, can’t I lose control in such a state of collective
individualism?
MQ: No, not in the least. Who’s asking that question anyway - you
or the ego in you? Because of concealed conditioning, experiences of collective consciousness are often confused with
trance-like states, out-of-body encounters, being
psychic, channeling various entities or communing with
‘angels’. Hidden beneath this false concern for
your wellbeing is an ego-motive that is trying to
dominate your destiny. Such interpretations of
collective consciousness, as mentioned above, are
rooted in aspects of cultural conditioning and have
yet to be transcended; therefore, although popular,
such interactions are not applicable to this
discussion.
P: Are the experiences of collective individualism personal?
MQ: They are actually better than that. They are transpersonal or personal-plus!
Only the ego-mind runs away from this level of true
intimacy with other human beings. The phenomena of
collective consciousness take many forms and
their effects are infinitely broad-ranging.
evolutionary pointer: Diaspora’s triumphant homecoming is in collective individualism.
MQ: We
will now examine three significant categories of
collective consciousness experiences:
1. Event-Driven
Collective Consciousness
2. Restorative Collective
Consciousness
3. Spontaneous Collective
Consciousness
1. Event-Driven
Collective Consciousness
MQ: Event-Driven Collective Consciousness experiences
are the most common. The motives for this type of
unity can include fun, entertainment, creativity and,
of course, self-identity or defense at the tribal or
national level. Lower manifestations can appear as
‘mob-mentality’ and more positive emergences as
‘group bonding’.
It is the ‘high’ that sweeps through a sporting
arena during critical or climactic moments.
Event-driven experiences of collective consciousness
require suitable conditions and appear regardless of
the level of consciousness of the participants. For
instance, when
Portugal
’s soccer team lost to
Greece
in the final match of the European Cup, different
collective experiences permeated each country. In
Portugal
, it was reflected in the dejected faces and movements
of every person. In
Greece
at the exact same time, this event-driven unity
manifested as triumphant elation!
Another emergence of event-driven collective
consciousness brought together the population of
Spain
on two occasions. The first instance was sparked by
the Prestige oil tanker catastrophe. This event united
legions of strangers who worked from sunrise to sunset
to save hundreds of miles of coastline from permanent
desecration. These volunteer groups worked
effectively, cohesively, tirelessly and without pay.
They toiled under extreme conditions for many months
with little personal interaction.
Another
major emergence of collective consciousness in that
country occurred after the terrorist attacks on 3/11
in Madrid. Three days after this tragic event this
unity resulted in the election of the trailing second
place government party, even though the incumbents
were expected to win by a massive majority.

2. Restorative Collective
Consciousness
MQ: An occurrence of restorative
collective consciousness requires the existence of
more advanced motives in a significant number of the
participants than in the previous category. These
advanced motives are generally related to
self-development or healing. The emergence of
restorative collective consciousness also requires
direct interactions between the participants in this
specific context of development, as opposed to simply being a spectator, witness, or victim in the
case of event-driven experiences. For example, when
people come together in the face of a common struggle,
with shared motives of support, healing and growth, a
tangible and curative energy fills the space around
them. Those who attend Alcoholics Anonymous or other
Twelve-Step groups speak of powerful communal
experiences and the spiritual presence that often
envelopes such gatherings.

3. Spontaneous Collective
Consciousness
MQ: Spontaneous collective
consciousness occurs when we temporarily go
beyond ego-identity in a group setting by using
conscious-free-will. This
experience of collective unity, also known as awakened
mind, is a tangible experience of unity
consciousness based on the ability of the participants
to temporarily disengage from ego-identity. This experience is not
event-driven or related to the work of recovery,
healing or ‘little-self’ development.
evolutionary pointer: Awakened mind
is the vehicle by which we co-create the future for
all humankind.
P: The experience of spontaneous collective
consciousness sounds quite dissimilar to the previous
two categories.
MQ: Yes, completely different. The
experience of spontaneous collective consciousness
only begins
when we withdraw our attention from an exclusive
identity with the ego. Remember, we can’t co-create
a vivid new world with the same point of focus that
has taken us to this particular highpoint in our
evolution as a race.
